Naseeruddin Shah Targets Government, Says He Is Proud to Be a ‘Mental Naxal’
Actor Naseeruddin Shah has renewed his criticism of the government, calling himself a “mental Naxal” and raising questions over alleged action against students at JNU, Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute and Jamia Millia Islamia.
Shah shared a video on his Facebook account on Tuesday in which he criticised the government and the labels allegedly given to people who disagree with its policies.
“I proudly say that I am a mental Naxal. Apart from mental Naxal, the chowkidar has given people like me all kinds of labels, including anti-national, tukde-tukde gang and who knows what else,” he said.
In the video, Shah questioned the government over what he described as its efforts to weaken the courage of young people, destroy educational institutions and threaten democracy.
“If there is any tukde-tukde gang in this country, it is this illegitimate government. And I want to ask this government a question. What else will you do? How much will you do to break the courage of the youth of our country, destroy educational institutions and put our democracy in danger? How far will you go, you and the army of foolish and dishonest people you have gathered around yourself?” he said.
Shah also referred to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute and Jamia Millia Islamia, alleging that students at these institutions had been subjected to oppression.
He said the actions taken against students at JNU first, followed by the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute and now Jamia Millia Islamia, would not be forgotten.
“Everything will be remembered,” he said.
Shah said that despite the government's efforts, the courage of young people would not be broken, educational institutions would not be destroyed and democracy would not be endangered.
The actor also used abusive language against the media and the BJP IT cell in the video.
At the end of the video, Shah saluted the country's youth and said his prayers were with them.
Shah’s latest remarks come after he shared another video on his Instagram Story on Saturday, in which he had used abusive language against the BJP and described it as a false party.
In the earlier video, Shah alleged that following the BJP's victory in the West Bengal elections, the party was taking action against people who did not agree with its ideology and policies.
He also raised the issue of students at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, claiming that they had been seeking answers from the administration but were instead issued show-cause notices, placed under surveillance and threatened.
Shah further alleged that the students had been asked to vacate their hostels.
His latest video has again brought his criticism of the government into focus, with the actor raising concerns over the treatment of students, the functioning of educational institutions and the state of democracy.
